The communities namesake Richard Beresford, migrated to the area from Barbados along with several other promienent well know Charleston area businessmen and their families. lnitially Beresford aquired the property as a 950-acre land grant to in 1706. Beresford was very active in the colony, serving many roles in government and helped shape the early colony, leaving an indelible mark.

Over the years the property has changed hands many times. It wasn’t untill 1999 that Greenwood Development Corporation began to transform Beresford Hall into the captivating community we treasure today.
